These past few months have been incredibly rough for me as an entrepreneur. Although I have the love and support of my family and friends, I still haven’t felt like I can achieve great things.
I know that I have accomplished a lot in the eyes of others…but there has been something nagging at me stealing my shine.
I am told often that I am inspiring and helpful to others who need me, but what about when you’re not able to be those things for yourself? I thought that saying encouraging words and giving advice would give me purpose, but for right now all it has done is mask what I’m personally living through….
The D and I are not strangers at all. We have been on an emotional rollercoaster for as long as I can remember. Like a lot of other people, I thought breaking free of my day job would give me all of the happiness that I needed. When in reality it made me face the fact that internally the work was just getting started.
I’m not sharing this for pity or praise. I’m sharing this because Depression is REAL!
Being an entrepreneur can be fun, but it will cause you to take a good hard look at what else in your life is falling short. That’s a tough pill to swallow, and knocks the wind out of me every day.
Yes, I have a therapist. Yes, I have a relationship with God. (Don’t start with me today 😂)
But, I am not going to remain silent and pretend that me depression is not happening. I’m refuse to give my audience a false representation of myself. Am I a good Branding Expert? You’re damn right I am. Am I a great wife & mother? Hell yes I am. But in order to continue to be those things I have to overcome and break free of where my depression is keeping me.
If this sounds like you, you are not alone. You are never alone in the fight to be the best you while creating a healthy mindset to match. I am with you in solidarity, and we will overcome this.
Which means that it’s time to rebrand...Rebranding The Black Woman.
